An important step in facilitating high-speed Internet availability is to create an understanding of local needs. By mapping the state’s existing broadband infrastructure, Connect Arkansas provides a level of detail that was previously not available in Arkansas, answering the question we often hear: “What high-speed Internet is available in my area?” These maps show where access is available, and more importantly, where access is not available. With this information, broadband providers can strategically optimize their network deployment plans and communities can further their Information Technology planning initiatives.

In 2009, Connect Arkansas received a grant of $1.6 million from the National Telecommunications Information Administration under the State Broadband Data and Development Grant Program. This grant money allowed Connect to map broadband access in Arkansas through 2011 to better answer availability questions such as “is there broadband Internet in my area?” Connect Arkansas in September 2010 received an extension of this mapping grant which is allowing Connect to improve the accuracy of the mapping, and track changes to broadband coverage. These maps show where access is available within each Arkansas county, down to the street level, in as much detail as was given to Connect Arkansas by high-speed Internet service providers, and give an overall view of statewide broadband coverage. Please consider the following points when viewing the available broadband maps:

  • It should be noted that, consistent with industry standards, the quality of the data provided on these maps is iterative in nature and reflects the most current data available from providers.
  • Distribution of this map is intended for informational purposes only and should not be considered authoritative for engineering, legal and other site-specific uses. These maps reflect residential/small business access only and are not to be used to determine internet speeds for purposes of economic development/recruiting. Service providers have assured Connect Arkansas that high-speed internet access can be extended to any site in Arkansas for purposes of industrial development, etc.
